Antarctica

An expedition to Antarctica would put me in the company of my heros - Scott, Shackelton and Amundsen, to name a few.

More than a vacation, a voyage to the Antarctic Peninsula would a life-enriching experience withopportunities for exploration found no where else on this planet.

Antarctica is indeed a wonderful, compelling destination, but I am a bit surprised to see Robert Falcon Scott in your list of heroes. Instead of adopting the kind of clothing that people in northern places used and skiing to the pole as Roald Amundsen did, Scott insisted on doing things in a "more English" way. He hated skiing and only used skis reluctantly, wasting precious time and energy -- and leaving no margin for error in his planning. On the return from being the runner-up to the South Pole, Scott and his men ran out of energy and ultimately perished just 10 or 12 miles from a major food and fuel cache. His stubborness cost him his life -- and that of four members on his team. IMHO, Scott is more to be pitied than admired.
