Thunderbird Lodge Room Rates Remain at 2006 Levels

THUNDERBIRD LODGE IN CANYON DE CHELLY NATIONAL MONUMENT
ANNOUNCES ROOM RATES FOR 2007 SUMMER SEASON

Thunderbird Lodge in Canyon de Chelly National Monument has announced its 2007 summer season room rates will remain at the same levels as in 2006. The high-season rates are in effect April 1 – November 15, 2007.

Rates for an “Adobe” room with two queen beds are $102 per night for single occupancy and $4 for each additional person. Rates for a “de Chelly” room featuring two double beds are $97 for a single and $4 for each additional person. A suite with a king bed and queen sofa sleeper is available for $145 for a single or double occupancy, $150 for triple occupancy and $155 for quad occupancy.

The only accommodations located within the monument’s borders, Thunderbird Lodge features 74 modern rooms and pink adobe style reminiscent of ancient pueblos. The rooms are equipped with comfortable beds, full bathrooms, air conditioning, rustic furniture, Navajo paintings and satellite television. Wireless Internet access is available as well.

Canyon de Chelly National Monument is located in northeast Arizona on Navajo Nation land. The monument contains 83,840 acres and was authorized as part of the National Park System in 1931. Today, the site preserves ruins of Native American Anasazi villages built in steep-walled canyons between A.D. 350 and 1300 as well as pictographs and petroglyphs. The monument is actually comprised of two large canyons – Canyon de Chelly and Canyon del Muerto (Spanish for “Canyon of the
Dead”) – and several smaller canyons.

Thunderbird Lodge is the authorized provider of group tours in Canyon de Chelly National Monument. Heavy-duty six-wheel drive touring vehicles are equipped with padded seats to provide a comfortable and memorable experience. Half-day tours departing at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. or 2 p.m., depending on the season, take visitors into the lower regions of both Canyon de Chelly and Canyon del Muerto and last 3½ hours. Rates for half-day tours are $40.95 for adults and $31.50 for children. Full-day tours begin in the spring and last until late fall. They depart at 9 a.m. and return at 5 p.m. The full-day tours take visitors on a 60-mile round trip through Canyon del Muerto to Mummy Cave and Canyon de Chelly to Spider Rock. Rates for full-day tours are $66.95 and include lunch.

For reservations, call 1-928-674-5841 or toll free at 1-800-679-2473. For more information on Canyon de Chelly National Monument and Thunderbird Lodge, go to www.tbirdlodge.com.
